How to know when your home is telling you to call a plumber?
Plumbing problems range from minor and fixable to dramatic and eye-watering. Sometimes it can be tough to tell the difference, or you may not even be aware know there’s a problem in the first place. We’ve put together a list of 5 signs of plumbing problems in your home to look out for. Spot them and you’ll know it’s a good time to call in a plumber.
This list of plumbing problems could save you time, money, and major headaches.
1. Water stains on ceilings or walls
If you notice peeling, cracked, or blistering paint or wallpaper, this could be evidence of a leak, particularly in a bathroom. The last thing you should do is ignore them, or just patch them up. The reason for the stains won’t disappear on their own and repainting the stained area will not fix the problem. The cause of the problem needs to be identified and fixed and if it’s a leaky roof or a broken pipe, fixing it will require professional help.
Have our plumber come and look for a leak and sort it out. Call Dave on 027 265 4949.
2. Fluctuating water pressure
Changes in water pressure can make a great shower go bad! More than a nuisance, low pressure and spluttering might be a sign that there’s something worse going on.
If you suddenly find yourself with weak showers or taps that don’t flow as well as they used to, there’s a good chance you have a plumbing issue. Fluctuating water pressure can be caused by a number of things, such as air trapped in pipes, your pressure regulating valve failing or clogged old pipes.
3. Slow drains
Every sink or shower is subject to slow drainage at some point. Blockages are usually caused by built-up of debris like hair, soap scum, fat and grease. The real problem is when all the pipes throughout the house often become slow to drain; you could have a major clog in your wastewater drains. This is known as a plumbing emergency, so call our plumbers immediately to come and take a look.
We’ll use our drain camera equipment to inspect your drains to locate and diagnose the issue and our Hydrojet drain cleaner to rid your drain of any debris, sludge, slurry, and tree roots, leaving them 100% clear.
4. Smelly drains
The bacteria that hang out in kitchens and bathrooms can lead to some interesting smells from time to time. But persistent bad smells emanating from drains could be the sign of a block or a break in your sewer pipes. If you smell sewage anywhere in your home or continuing foul smells from your drains, it’s important to call a plumber pronto.
5. High water bills
Unless you’ve become a fanatical car cleaner, you’ve put in a pool or you’re watering the garden like crazy, a climbing water bill is usually a clear-cut sign that there is some major leaking going on in your plumbing system. If you notice that your bill is higher than usual, it’s worth calling in one of our plumbers to check for leaks or other issues.
